Revitalization of the Perla 01 area in Ústí nad Orlicí

The fate of Ústí nad Orlicí is similar to the fate of many towns of the same size. Town’s potential was unlocked by the industrial revolution. Entrepreneurial talent of the Harnych family resulted in foundation of the sustainable business giving job to most of town inhabitants and being the driving force behind the growth of the town. After its closure the area started to fall into disrepair and it became a problematic part of the town. Nowadays, the abandoned area of Perla 01 may not necessarily be an issue for the town and is should be perceived especially as an opportunity and a new challenge for the town.

MS plan studio sees the potential of the industrial Brownfield in the town centre as a great chance to change and improve town functioning. As designed, a new information centre with facilities for tourists, new town gallery, children and youth centre, secondary school of applied arts, multifunctional hall with facilities for the Municipal office, premises for exhibitions and lectures and parking facilities should be created in the revitalized area. New Perla 01 will provide revitalized premises also for business development. Obviously, the vision of the town is to create new residential buildings. Within the period of several upcoming years, the closed industrial Brownfield will turn into a unique and functional part of the town referring to its rich history.

The design by MS plan studio counts on including Perla 01 in structures of public and transport networks of the town. New public areas for people to meet such as parks, squares, avenues and shopping malls are among other objectives of the project. The main purpose is to remove “barriers” created by the abandoned area, open the space and make it available for people while preserving exclusivity and an industrial nature of the former Perla 01.
