Design for a new forest park aims to regenerate border town

Our studio has completed a design for a new forest park in the Czech border town of Bohumín, including a zoning plan for the regeneration and accessibility of the entire area. The site which is situated in the north east of the town is lined by farmland and within the active floodplain zones of the Olše and Odra Rivers.

The area is currently problematic in terms of hydrogeology including a dead river channel which is currently unused. Additionally, the entire southern tip of the site consists of an inaccessible area creating a barrier which prevents local development and an obstacle between the eastern and western parts of the town. Our plan transforms the challenging area into a new forest park – composed of high quality landscaping well connected to the town by several paths. The project, unique in the history of the town, focuses on nature and people and will provide space for leisure, sports and relaxing, just a few steps from the town centre.
