The tender for the general contractor of the Kvilda boarding house is underway and construction should begin this year

In the heart of the Šumava National Park, in the picturesque village of Kvilda, which is the highest village in the Czech Republic, a new guest house will be built. We designed a pair of buildings in the center of the village at the foot of the ski resort. The sober expression of the new guest house sensitively completes the atmosphere of the village and creates a sympathetic dialogue between the architectural traditions of Šumava and the elegant curves of contemporary architecture. The morphology of both buildings creatively develops the archetype of the Šumava cottage with gabled roofs and the choice of traditional materials. Wooden vertical battens, wooden cladding and stone foundations together with dormers, generous windows and recessed balconies form imaginative, yet modest facades, which sensitively co-create the genius loci of Kvilda and the Šumava landscape.
